About Afghan Hound in Fast CAT

Afghan Hounds combine sighthound speed with the most distinctive coat in the dog world — and on a Fast CAT course, the silky hair flies.

Competitive Afghan Hounds run 30–34 MPH at the 1.0× handicap. The breed's leaderboard sits in the low 30s. Afghans are sighthounds in body but trickier in temperament — their independent character means not every Afghan will reliably chase the lure.

The breed has a small but dedicated Fast CAT community. Handlers who succeed typically come from a lure-coursing background and have already built drive at home before the first event. Watching an Afghan Hound at full sprint is one of the visual highlights of any Fast CAT trial.
