About Italian Greyhound in Fast CAT

Italian Greyhounds are the fast small dog — sighthound build, sighthound brain, but in a 12–15 pound package that earns the 1.5× handicap.

Top competitive Italian Greyhounds run 27–30 MPH. With the 1.5× handicap (most IGs measure between 12" and 18" at the withers), those translate to roughly 40–45 points per run — directly competitive with full-size Whippets and faster than most working breeds on a per-run basis.

Italian Greyhounds also absolutely *love* Fast CAT. The breed's prey drive is preserved despite generations of toy-class breeding, so most IGs lock onto the lure and chase hard from their first run onward. The challenge for handlers is conditioning a dog whose body is fragile — Fast CAT itself is low-impact, but year-round speed work has to balance against the breed's tendency toward leg fractures.
